SURFACE PREPARATION
For the Etch Primer to function effectively it must be in direct contact with the metal surface. Therefore remove any traces of grease, oil and dirt residues by wetting a rag with turps or general purpose thinners and wiping across the entire surface. Sand the metal surface by either wire brushing or mechanical sander to remove any traces of rust and rough texture. Wipe the surface clean to remove metal fillings that may have generated during the sanding operation. Allow the surface to dry thoroughly.

APPLICATION
Stir the contents with a broad flat paddle for about 2 minutes to ensure uniformity of contents. Apply 2 coats using conventional spray guns allowing sufficient drying between coats. Under normal conditions 2 coats will cover most surfaces; highly absorbent surfaces may require additional coats. Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat.
The Balchan Etch Primer Spray can be applied at pressures in the range 800 - 3000 psi and at temperatures between 15 - 300 degree C. To prevent dry spray apply at distance of 20-30cm. Adjust spray gun pressure to suit spraying conditions.
If during spraying the paint appears thin then increase fluid pressure. If too heavy or runny or the finish is showing solvent popping then decrease fluid pressure and/or decrease the fluid tip orifice size. If the finish displays orange peel then decrease fluid tip orifice size for better atomization.
If the applied finish displays pin holes or fish eyes then this may be due to either airborne contaminants getting into the paint during application or the pump used to deliver the paint is leaking oil into the paint. If the gun is spitting paint onto the surface then the gun may be dirty and requires cleaning.

DRYING AND RECOAT
Balchan Etch Primer will be touch dry in 10 minutes and dry to handle in 20 minutes. Can be coated after 1 hour at room temperature but allow longer drying during cold conditions or at temperatures below 15 degree C. The Etch Primer will cure fully in 24 hours but longer curring periods may be required during cold conditions. Etch Primer can be topcoated with most finishes including enamels, epoxies, lacquers, polyurethanes, acrylics, chlorinated rubber. When overcoating after a prolonged period of exposure examine the primer surface and ensure that it is free of dirt, dust, oil and grease contaminants that may have settled on the surface during the period of exposure.
